The London mayoral election is in full swing and it seems that a huge number of my neighbours in and around the capital are happy enough to have Boris Johnson as mayor of one of the world’s biggest cities.
The attitude I’ve come across time and again is that he’s “harmless and amusing, so why not re-elect him?”
It’s worrying that a man who basically does nothing at all, and so does nothing negative, can still be so highly thought of as a politician. I think it says far more about our citizens’ general malaise about politics than it does about the individual candidate.
Funny and amusing is for stand-up comics. Thoughtful and decisive is for leaders. Don’t be fooled.
